One's position may give them the right to make a decision, but not the right to belittle us. It is important to distinguish between disagreement with a decision and the manner in which it was communicated to us.

We can ask for an explanation, point out an unacceptable word or suggest that the conversation continue in a different tone. Sometimes this is possible immediately. Sometimes the relationship of power and circumstances demand caution, support or another way to protect our interests.

That is why it is not fair to a person who is silent at that moment to say that they themselves agreed to the humiliation. They may be assessing consequences that others do not see.

Responsibility for disrespect rests with the person who shows it. Our boundary can also be clear when we express it later, through a documented objection, a supportive conversation, or a decision to no longer participate in such a relationship.
