It is necessary to say "NO" even to some truly good things.
We all have opportunities and commitments, but a healthy and productive routine can only be built over the long term by allocating our yeses wisely.
And yes, sometimes you have to say "no" even to very good opportunities and commitments.
You cannot always be accommodating; that is how people take advantage of your kindness.
And in the end, you start taking advantage of yourself too. You must set clear boundaries!
You may have to say no to certain favours, business projects, community associations, volunteer groups… coaching your child's sports team or another activity that seems worthwhile.
I know what you are thinking: it seems unfair to say no when these things have value. Turning them down hurts!
But you must, because the alternative is to do every task poorly, feel stressed and trapped in an endless cycle of commitments, and eventually reach breaking point.
Honestly, what keeps most of us trapped in an exhausting cycle of overload is the fantasy that we can be everything to everyone, everywhere, at the same time, and a hero on every front.
But that simply is not reality.
The reality is that you are not Superman or Wonder Woman. You are human, and you have limits.
That is why you must let go of the idea of doing everything, pleasing everyone and being everywhere.
In the end, you will either do a few things well or everything poorly.
