I’ve messed up so many times in my life that at some point I stopped counting. But you know what? I didn’t fail because I made mistakes. I would have failed if I’d come out of every mistake the same person. Some decisions cost me time. Some cost me people. Some cost me peace. Some cost me more than they should have.
But each one forced me to see something I didn’t want to admit at the time. That I wasn’t always right. That good intentions don’t make up for a bad decision. That character isn’t built when everything goes according to plan, but when you’re left alone with the consequences of your choices.
Today, I no longer run from my mistakes. I’m not proud of them, but I no longer hide them. What I messed up taught me something. And once I learn from it, it is no longer a defeat.
It’s a hard-won lesson. It’s worth as much as the way I act differently because of it.
