Sometimes we claim that what we are not really satisfied with is enough. In business or in a relationship, it can be a way to postpone an unpleasant conversation and avoid the question of what we are really missing.

Fair assessment does not require perfect circumstances. It asks us to distinguish an acceptable compromise from giving up something that is important to us. Love, respect and meaningful work are not needs that disappear because we keep them silent.

When we see the difference, we can state the expectation and check if there is room for change. If there is none, the decision remains on what to do next. Someone else's impression that everything is fine cannot replace our response.
