Misunderstanding sometimes begins even before the response, in what we’ve already decided to think. We don’t listen to understand. We listen to respond. To defend our position. To protect our ego. And then every message becomes a threat, not an opportunity. The truth is simple, but it is not comfortable. Common sense does not require a great deal of knowledge; it requires honesty with oneself.

Critical thinking isn’t a competition in arguments, but the courage to say: maybe I’m wrong. That’s the moment of growth. Not when you win an argument, but when you recognize that your initial interpretation wasn’t sufficient. In the end, the question isn’t whether we’ve heard the advice. The question is whether we’ve understood it and checked to see if it makes sense for our situation.

And now, a sincere question: When was the last time you changed your mind after truly listening to someone?
