How often have we heard of someone leaving a great company? Why?
What connects people to a company?
Why do they like or not like working there?
Vision. The answer to the question: why do we do what we do? What do we believe in? This does not mean only having targets, financial indicators and numbers to achieve, but a vision that every leader needs to communicate to their team.
Empathy. Leaders need to understand their employees’ feelings, wishes and intentions in order to lead them. Everyone needs someone who can act as a mirror, someone who will understand their feelings. Put yourself in your employee’s place, ask whether you can help, and behave as you would like others to behave towards you.
Motivation. Leaders need to know their employees, understand what motivates each person, and work on it.
The future. Many people want security and a chance to see their future within a company. Give employees a reason to connect themselves and their future to the company where they work.
That is why a person’s departure should not always be reduced to the company in general. It is worth examining their relationship with those who lead it too.
