A plan is necessary even when we cannot guarantee that everything will go according to plan. Conditions, people, or client needs change, so what made sense yesterday requires a new assessment today.

In such moments, I don’t expect a leader to feign certainty. I expect them to say what they know, what they don’t yet know, and how the team will reach the next decision.

Cautiousness is not the same as inflexibility. We can listen to people, change course, and admit a misjudgment—while still taking responsibility for what follows.

When everyone is waiting for an answer, a clear next step is more helpful than a convincing speech with no substance.
