The problem with people today isn’t a lack of discipline. The problem is that they have grown used to explaining every choice to themselves. They explain why it’s not the right time. They explain why the moment is wrong. They explain why “now isn’t the right time.” Each explanation calms them a little. And they give up a little. Explanations can help us understand an obstacle.

But when we just keep repeating them, without checking what we can actually do, it can become a way to leave everything as it is. Growth doesn’t come when you finally understand why you’re not doing something. It comes at the moment when you stop making excuses and start acting without a perfect reason.

What explanation have you been repeating to yourself for too long?
