We can expect someone to understand us because they have known us for a long time. However, even someone close to us does not always know what is difficult for us or what kind of support we are currently looking for.
It helps to be more specific. What has changed? What burdens us? Do we need a conversation, help with an obligation, or just time to be together without trying to solve everything right away?
The other person then has the opportunity to respond to a real need, instead of guessing. That doesn't mean we have to tell everyone everything. We can choose the person and the moment in which we feel safe enough to speak about what we have kept to ourselves until now.
