It is not possible to adapt to everyone else's expectation. Some will be bothered by our directness, some by our reticence, and some by the decision we made for reasons they don't know.
Self-acceptance can help us not perceive such differences as a demand to change completely. However, personal characteristics are not an excuse for rudeness or neglect of others. We can remain ourselves and learn to act more carefully.
In a close relationship, there is room for both affection and honest remarks. It is not necessary to hide every imperfection, but it is important to hear how our behavior affects the person we care about.
