An encounter with a rude or demanding person can show what kind of behavior we don't want to repeat. However, it is not necessary to be grateful for every injury in order to understand something from the experience.
It is important to separate the lesson from the obligation to stay in the same relationship. We can recognize what bothers us, state the expectation more clearly, and decide how much space we will give that person. Sometimes walking away is a more sensible choice than another attempt at explaining.
The people who support us also deserve attention. We easily take their presence for granted as we deal with difficult relationships. It is worth saving time for those with whom there is respect and the possibility of honest conversation.
