I wonder if we’re even living on the same planet.

Some read books to become better people, while others collect pretty quotes as they trample others.

Some fight evil because injustice hurts them. Others fight evil only when it’s not on their side. Here we see how closely the values we profess are tied to our decisions.

It’s easy to denounce arrogance until they gain a little power. It’s easy to denounce injustice until they start benefiting from it. It’s easy to denounce lies until the truth damages their self-image. Many want to be moral, but only as long as morality doesn’t demand sacrifice.

That’s why I’m no longer sure people are really fighting evil. Many are just fighting whatever gets in their way. When they do the same thing, it’s no longer evil.

Then it’s character. A stance. Resourcefulness. Reality. Life. It seems we don’t live in the same world. Some are still trying to remain human.

But others have long since simply learned to speak beautifully about humanity.
