People often view us through their own eyes, their own wounds, their own fears, their own interests, and their own limitations.

Some will see pride in your silence. Some will see weakness in your kindness. Some will see rudeness in your determination. Some will see defeat in your withdrawal.

We cannot always prevent such interpretations.

People often describe the image they have formed of you rather than who you are. So another person’s interpretation does not necessarily give a complete picture of what we have done.

So don’t waste your energy trying to control other people’s opinions. It’s a never-ending battle with no victory. Save your energy for your own life. For what you’re building. For the people who understand you. For the peace you don’t have to explain to anyone. Because in the end, what others say about you isn’t what matters most.

What matters most is that you haven’t betrayed yourself by trying to please them.
