The conversation about the development of Ulcinj starts with space, heritage and the people who live there. Other people's tourist success can give an idea. The answer to the question of what kind of city we want must arise here.
The old town, Valdanos, Ada Bojana and the coast influence the experience of the city and the daily life of the inhabitants. Their value remains even when the season is over. The way we preserve and use them speaks of our relationship to the city.
The new project therefore deserves specific questions: how does it affect traffic, water, waste and access to public space? What does it bring to local people and the economy? Who bears the cost if the promised result is not achieved?
The scale, location and quality of construction have consequences that remain after the opening. The number of new housing units does not in itself describe the quality of the development.
I would like a city where there is room for local producers, culture and public spaces. Tourism also has value through how much it contributes to the lives of people who are here throughout the year.
The agreement on development becomes real through individual decisions. If in each of them we forget what we said we want to save, no big plan will save the city for us.
