A person can have difficulty in one area and show attention and skill in another. A school or business result should therefore not be turned into a final assessment of everything a person can develop.
It is useful to offer different ways to demonstrate knowledge: explanation, making something, collaboration and a practical attempt. It is important to keep the criteria clear, with an understanding of what a particular task is actually checking for.
This does not mean promising everyone excellence in some hidden field. It means leaving room for the exploration of abilities and serious learning. People get more from a concrete opportunity and feedback than from a grand claim about talent they have not yet had a chance to explore.
