Learning facts has a place in education, but the student also needs the opportunity to ask how they are connected and what they are for. Without that space, a good answer can remain a repeated sentence that they do not know how to use.
The task may require explanation, comparison and collaboration, with knowledge to be mastered. It is important that the child understands the criterion and that the mistake is the reason for an additional question, instead of a permanent assessment of their ability.
Changing teaching also requires conditions for teachers: time, support and appropriate requirements. It is not enough to declare the whole school obsolete. We should name a procedure that we can improve and check whether it really facilitates the students' understanding.
