We can meet the expectations of those around us and only later notice that we do not know why we continue to accept them. Work, lifestyle or plan for the future remain set according to someone else's yardstick.

It is useful to ask what in that choice we really want to keep. What suits us, what do we do out of obligation, and what do we do out of fear of someone else's reaction?

Such a conversation does not require us to immediately stop everything we have been building. Change can be gradual and should take into account the people who depend on our actions. It is important that one's own desire gets a place in the decision, instead of constantly leaving it for later.
