Sometimes we say we are fine because we have no words for what we feel. The conversation would require an explanation that we haven't even given ourselves yet. It is easier to carry on with our obligations and preserve a familiar image of ourselves.

However, the feeling does not disappear because we did not say it. It remains in the way we talk, withdraw or react to small things. Admitting to ourselves that it is difficult for us already changes our attitude towards what we carry.

A conversation with a person we trust can start even without a polished explanation. Suffice it to say that we are trying to understand something. Closeness also has room for an unfinished sentence. We don't have to prove to the people who hear us that we solved everything ourselves.
