Returning to the same problem can act as evidence that we have not progressed. However, it is more useful to look at what is repeated this time, and what we understand differently today.
We may have changed circumstances, but kept the same habit. Maybe we didn't have enough support before. Perhaps it is a problem that cannot be solved by a single decision.
Not every repetition should be attributed some hidden life lesson. We can look at it more concretely: what we have already tried, what did not help and what new procedure makes sense. Past experience counts if we use it for that assessment, instead of just using it to prove how long we've been stuck.
