More and more often, I get the impression that it’s hard for us to keep our attention on a single thought. We open a text, a message comes in, we check the news, move on to a video, and we’ve already forgotten why we picked up the phone in the first place.

Opinions, news, notifications, and comments follow one another with hardly any space in between. Just as we begin to grasp one topic, another is already vying for our attention.

I wonder how much of all this actually sticks with us. Have we actually read and understood anything, or have we just skimmed enough content to give ourselves the impression that we’re informed?

I wish we’d make time more often for a text we won’t interrupt, a thought we won’t immediately replace, and a conversation during which the phone can wait.
