We often live as if one more thing will finally bring us peace. One more obligation. One more meeting. One more person around us. More money. One more plan. One more thing we supposedly can’t live without. And then one day we turn around and realize we have more of everything—except the space to breathe normally.

Adding another layer of problems is easy. Filling your schedule to the brim is easy. Staying in a draining relationship because you fear the void is easy.

It’s harder to honestly look at what no longer serves you, to recognize what’s draining your focus, peace, and energy, and to muster the strength to remove it from your life.

Clutter isn’t always in the house. Sometimes it’s in your head, on your phone, in your schedule, or in relationships you’ve been carrying around for a long time, even though you no longer know why.

Not every excess is harmless. Some drains your focus. Some drains your peace. Some drains your years. So don’t just ask yourself what you’re still missing. Ask yourself what has become too much.

It’s worth checking what we really need, and what we’ve just gotten used to adding.
