A good result can lead us to overestimate our judgment. A bad result can make us doubt even what we really know. In both cases, it is useful to pause before drawing conclusions about ourselves.
What was well prepared this time? Where did we go wrong? How much did the circumstances and actions of other people change the outcome? The answers provide more than a division into successful and unsuccessful.
We can enjoy the result without treating others as if we are above them. We can also admit failure without concluding that we no longer have anything to offer. What is important is how that experience will show in the work we do next.
