I know many people who have read countless books, yet still fail to put what they’ve read into practice. Knowledge is one thing; applying that knowledge is something else entirely.

We can study for years, intellectually enrich ourselves, and still fail to take action. Sometimes because we don’t know the right techniques, and sometimes because we still cling desperately to old beliefs, even though we believe we let them go long ago.

The true measure of the success of our ideas and goals lies right here, at the point where we stand today. Are you satisfied with your current position, or do you feel it should be better? Standing where you are, are you close to your goal, or are you miles away, with no clear alternative paths to it?

Are you taking small steps that might open unexpected doors and lead you to your goal by a roundabout route? Do you know how to recognize these signs along the way, and do you know how to interpret them correctly? Without these insights, achieving what we want is often merely postponed.

Not because we haven’t learned enough, but because we haven’t understood how knowledge translates into action and how opportunities rarely appear in the form we imagined.
