I recently heard about a thousand-euro lunch that supposedly helps you understand business better. Honestly, I thought I’d been doing everything wrong all these years. Instead of projects, problems, work on site, people, and responsibilities, all I needed to do was go out to lunch more often.
Order dessert and you might even become a senior.
A conversation with someone experienced can be very valuable. They can show you what you haven’t seen and help you avoid a costly mistake. But a conversation and a promise that you’ll skip years of learning aren’t the same thing.
A high price isn’t proof that the advice will be good. Nor are years of work in and of themselves proof that someone knows how to pass on their experience. It’s worth asking what exactly you’re getting and what you’ll be able to do with it.
If there is a menu that replaces all that work, I clearly have not ordered it yet.
