Formally, we can choose another job, but such a decision looks different when the income already covers only basic needs. Housing, food and existing commitments determine how much space we have to try.
That is why freedom of choice should be talked about with knowledge of the conditions. A person who stays at a bad job is not necessarily uninterested in change. They may not be able to handle the interruption of income right now.
It is important whether the environment opens up some possibility for them: support for learning, clear information about another job or an agreement that reduces uncertainty. It is not enough to offer a story about personal courage where real conditions for a decision are also needed.
