The phone allows us to respond quickly, but easily turns any time of the day into a possible continuation of work. The message arrives after working hours, and no one has clearly agreed on the expected response.
Such a relationship to availability should be regulated. What is really urgent? Who is on duty? Which request can wait until the next day? Without those rules, personal time depends on someone else's judgment in the moment.
Balance is not only created by better organization of the individual. The firm has responsibility for the amount of work and expectations it sets. If vacations are constantly interrupted, the agreement should be changed, not just advice to people to manage their time better.
